Attorney Joyce M. Deitering graduated from Northmont High School in Clayton, Ohio, in 1977. She was granted a Bachelor of Arts degree and Writing Certificate from the University of Cincinnati in 1981 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Dayton School of Law in 1984.
Most recently, Joyce Deitering has immersed herself in the study of elder law, including continuing legal education on planning for seniors and their families and those with special needs. In her desire to properly advise and serve clients with long-term care issues, such as assessment and residential placement, long-term care insurance analysis, and home health care, she was instrumental in acquiring a cutting-edge software program for creating superior elder law and special needs planning legal documents. Attorney Deitering has joined a forum in which ideas and expertise on elder law and special needs planning are freely exchanged among attorneys.

She first opened her law office in the former Randolph Township (now Clayton), Ohio, in 1984 and has maintained her business there since. Attorney Deitering has concentrated her practice in the areas of bankruptcy, probate (wills and trusts), and domestic relations. She has served as a founding member of the Ohio Women’s Bar Association and as a member of the Montgomery County panel of arbitrators as well as the panel of appointed counsel for Montgomery County and the United States District Court, Southern District of Ohio. She is a member of the Ohio and Montgomery County Bar Associations. Ms. Deitering has been admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Ohio (10/29/84), the United States District Court, Southern Division (12/14/84), and the United States Supreme Court (6/11/90).
Among the awards received by Attorney Deitering are the Outstanding Citizen of the Year and the Outstanding Elected Official, both presented by the Northmont Jaycees, and the Up and Comer award, presented by Price Waterhouse. She has been a member of many community organizations, including the Northmont Chamber of Commerce, Clayton Business Association, National Trail La Sertoma, Randolph Township Optimists, and Northmont Rotary, and has served on several community boards, including the Board of Directors for Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley.

Ms. Deitering has a long history of elected service. First elected as Randolph Township Trustee in 1987, Ms. Deitering served in that position until the merger of Randolph Township with the Village of Clayton in 1998. Ms. Deitering served on both the merger study commission and the first city council for Clayton. Her commitment to the Northmont area has been demonstrated by her former service as chairman of the Northmont Education Foundation, Northmont Mock Trial adviser, service on various ad hoc committees, including Superintendent Selection Committee, and she is the recipient of the Friend of Education Award presented by the Northmont Education Association.
