Experience
Throughout his career as a trial lawyer, Pat has handled a wide range of legal matters in federal and state courts, as well as private binding arbitrations.
Pat’s commercial litigation experience includes intellectual property, franchise law, insurance coverage, trusts and estates, professional liability, consumer fraud, minority shareholder disputes and partnership dissolutions, and appellate practice.
He has litigated patent and copyright infringement disputes involving consumer products, technological services, and medical equipment devices, including license agreement disputes.
He has also defended franchise owners from oppressive franchisor tactics, wrongful terminations, and litigated franchise contract disputes.
Pat tried a case against an independent contractor and its principals resulting in a jury verdict and final judgment in the amount of $531,000, including treble damages and attorney’s fees under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act.
A $350,000 judgment was secured by Pat in a shareholder contract dispute and successfully tried a case in the United States Bankruptcy Court resulting in the dismissal of the creditor’s complaint to exempt from discharge a claim for $1 million in debt for alleged fraudulent representations and conversion of collateral.
Pat has successfully represented management in defending against employee claims of age, gender, national origin and religious discrimination, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, and retaliation.
Judgment in favor of his client was secured, resulting in the dismissal of claims made by two former employees who alleged they were victims of a hostile work environment and were wrongfully discharged for engaging in whistle-blowing activity.
Employers and human resource professionals benefit from Pat’s prior professional experience in finance and operations management. He counsels companies in a wide range of employment and management issues including employment policies, reorganizations, workforce reductions, employee performance appraisals, employee discipline, and termination.
Education
Pat graduated from The College of New Jersey (B.S. in Business Administration), John F. Kennedy University (M.B.A. Management), and Seton Hall University School of Law (J.D. Cum Laude). While at John F. Kennedy University, he earned the Edmund P. Learned Award for outstanding scholastic achievement.
Licensed to practice in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, Pat is admitted to the following federal courts: District of New Jersey, Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Middle District of Pennsylvania, and Third Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association.
